ESPEJO means “mirror” in Spanish. This modality then is as if the couples were facing a mirror as they dance Rueda. In the diagram below, note the position of the leaders and followers! While the calls of the figures are the same, the execution has changed … and movement is in an opposite direction! What is supposed to be “easy” or at least “familiar” becomes a puzzle to be solved! Advanced dancers of Rueda will especially enjoy the challenge of this modality!
